Terms of service

Last updated 20 October 2026. By using Jirani you agree to these terms. Please read them; they are written to be clear.

1. About Jirani

Jirani is a marketplace, operated by LMN (Kenya), where people ("clients") find and book people near them who offer services ("providers"). Jirani provides the app, the listings, the chat and the payments, including escrow. Providers are independent: they are not our employees or agents, and they are responsible for the services they offer.

2. Who can use Jirani

  • You must be 18 or older and able to enter into a contract.
  • You must give accurate details, including a phone number you control.
  • One person, one account. Do not use someone else's account.
  • Providers must have any licence or permit the law requires for their work.

3. Your account

Keep your password and phone safe; you are responsible for what is done with your account. Tell us at once if you think someone else is using it.

4. Bookings and escrow

  • When a client books, they pay the full price plus the service fee into escrow. Jirani holds this money; the provider does not receive it yet.
  • The provider accepts or declines. If they decline, or either side cancels before the work is done, the client gets everything back, fees included, as Jirani balance.
  • When the provider marks the job done, the client checks the work. When the client approves, the provider's earnings (the price minus Jirani's commission) are added to their Jirani balance.
  • Approve only when you are satisfied. Once you approve, the payment cannot be reversed in the app.
  • If M-Pesa confirms a payment for something that can no longer be made (for example, an offer someone else took), the money is kept as your Jirani balance.

5. Fees

Jirani charges a service fee to clients (today 5% of the price), a commission to providers (today 10% of the price), a fee to publish a service (KSh 100) or post a request (KSh 50), and a fee for optional skill verification (KSh 500). Fees can change; the app always shows the exact amount before you pay, and a change never affects an order already paid.

6. Your Jirani balance and withdrawals

Your balance holds refunds and earnings. You can use it to pay on Jirani, or withdraw it to your own confirmed M-Pesa number. Withdrawals that M-Pesa refuses are returned to your balance.

7. Disputes

If something goes wrong with an order, report a problem in the app before approving. The payment stays frozen while a Jirani admin reviews what both sides say and decides to pay the provider or refund the client, fully or as fits the situation. This does not take away any rights you have under Kenyan law.

8. Rules for everyone

On Jirani you must not:

  • ask for or make payments outside Jirani for work found on Jirani, or share phone numbers, links or payment details in listings, offers or chat to get around escrow;
  • offer or request anything illegal, sexual services, weapons, drugs, or services that need a licence you don't have;
  • harass, threaten, discriminate against or mislead anyone;
  • post false listings, fake reviews, or someone else's photos;
  • try to break, overload or misuse the app, the API or other members' accounts.

9. Reviews and verification

Reviews must be honest and about the job. The Verified badge and skill verification mean we checked the documents we were shown; they are not a guarantee of the work. Always use your own judgement.

10. Your content

You keep ownership of what you post (photos, text). You give us permission to show it on Jirani and to use it to run and promote the service. Only post what you have the right to post.

11. Suspension and closing accounts

We may remove listings, hold payments under review, or suspend accounts that break these terms or put others at risk. You can delete your account at any time (see Delete your account).

12. Our responsibility

We work hard to keep Jirani available and safe, but the service is provided as it is. Providers, not Jirani, are responsible for their services. To the extent Kenyan law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses, and our total liability to you is limited to the fees you paid Jirani in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

13. Changes

We may update these terms. We change the date at the top and, for important changes, tell you in the app. Using Jirani after a change means you accept the new terms.

14. Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, and the courts of Kenya have jurisdiction.
